I was able to get around my above error by using the
sudo dpkg –force-depends -i ibm-notes-9.0.i586.deb

Have it running now. Thanks for all that you do to help us noobs on installing Notes!

after editing the .deb and repacking, and installing the 32libs, I get this error with attempting to install.
